3 Kid-Friendly Holiday Activities in San Diego

San Diego's holiday season doesn't come with snow — until it does, at least for one day a year. Here are three kid-friendly activities worth adding to your holiday plans this year.

1. Legoland Christmas Tree

Legoland's holiday display features the world's largest LEGO Christmas tree, along with singing elves and a LEGO Santa scattered throughout the park. It's the kind of over-the-top, kid-magnet display that Legoland does best — genuinely exciting for younger kids who are already into LEGO, and a fun holiday photo op for the whole family.

2. Ice Skating at Hotel del Coronado

An outdoor ice rink set up just steps from the sand, with the beach and the Pacific right there in the background. It's a genuinely only-in-San-Diego combination — ice skating and ocean views in the same view — and a memorable way to spend a holiday afternoon or evening with kids.

3. Real Snow in Kensington Park (December 14)

For one day, Kensington Park trucks in actual snow for sledding and play — real snow, not the foam kind sometimes used at holiday events. It's completely free, which makes it one of the easiest holiday outings to plan around, especially for families who want their kids to experience snow without a trip to the mountains.

Planning Your Holiday Season Around These

Legoland is the most involved outing of the three and works well as a full day trip, especially if you're combining it with other park attractions. The Hotel del Coronado ice rink is a great shorter outing — an hour or two, easily paired with dinner in Coronado. Kensington Park's snow day is the most limited window, so it's worth marking December 14th on the calendar in advance if that's the one you want to catch.

The Bottom Line

Between LEGO magic at Legoland, oceanfront ice skating at the Hotel del Coronado, and a free day of real snow in Kensington Park, San Diego has genuinely fun holiday options for families this season — even without a flake of snow falling naturally anywhere nearby.
